Innocence

I could look fire in the eye
And hold ice in my palms
They’d fall back with a sigh
Watching me beam with pride
I was told I was too naive
And innocence was a curse
That I knew nothing of a world
That was only getting worse
But I was devoid of any fears
And I always spoke my mind
I didn’t try to toil with the future
Or get stuck in memorial rewind
Yet they continued to warn me
Trying to shelter my mind
Keeping me from a sea
Made of beautiful blasphemies
and wind.
