He thought
Love meant warm metaphors
And a feeble fantasy
A mystical madness and
Evenings getting drunk on ecstasy.

She let him know
Rather subtly
That sometimes it meant icicles in the throat
And wreckage at the bottom of the sea
Broken wooden ends of a boat
That would prevent their desire to be free.
