canopy (Actuality and Angst #11)

some miserable poetry and drunk macarena for this saturday night.

i liked that we were a canopy
protected from the heat of the world
we did unfurl
through letters of lust
i still remember the time you told
me, i must or else you might
be too full of air and rust
we spread across dimensions
like science fiction, too soon
is what i felt, the moon
was all we really had for
the sea had given up long before
we tried to stop keeping scores
i liked that we were a canopy
protected from the exterior
but who knew we’d need protection
from each other
