NaPoWriMo 9/30 [Growing Apart]

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt required me to write a poem in just nine lines. For some reason I chose a personal topic that I’ve been avoiding to write about for a while so it was quite a challenging task because I wanted to go all-out but had to stick to the prompt.

Fun, nevertheless!

Presenting the pain of growing apart. Something that hurts differently every time depending on who’s on the other end.

And this is how we grow apart
With fewer words every day,
Brushing shoulders in hallways,
Hugs to remind that we made
Runny promises about being okay,
With one loose thread, becoming two,
And jokes that breathe freely between
Us, like we have nothing to lose.
When in fact we do, we do.
