Many Shoes Apart

I’ll never know the life they live
Scrawny limbs, deprived,
And a fading light in their eyes;
An energy that spies on stories
Floating like garbage in cyberspace
Carefully embroidered with lies;
That disorientation in their mind
And the furious skipping of heartbeats
That a second ago rested quite silently
In the pit of their chest cavity,
Safe: out of sight and sometimes
Feeling like it will barely survive.
